Scholarship Appeal Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Scholarship Appeal - Essay Example I eventually found the load to be highly demanding; as such, I withdrew from the class to avoid generating a low grade. Regardless of the course withdrawal, the challenging academic requirements caused my inability to meet the GPA requirements of my scholarship. I am hereby appealing to the committee to re-consider sustaining my scholarship with the firm commitment that I would work fervently to meet and maintain the required GPA. I am hereby providing the details: Other confounding events and circumstances apparently rationalized my inability to meet the GPA requirement. One of the main reasons that I attended the University of Louisville was because it was in close proximity to where my parents lived. My parents understood that I was going to College at a younger age than all my peers and they believed that I still needed a support system at least for my first full year at the University. However, because of great job opportunities in Texas for my parents, they decided that since I obtained a good GPA during my first semester, I was stable enough to be left in another state by myself. I got a job as a hostess at Griffââ¬â¢s restaurant to augment the financial resources I had to support living alone and studying, at the same time. With the time allocated for work, there was evidently lesser time allotted for studying and going to REACH sessions. As soon as I started to see my grades suffer detrimentally, I decided to stop the job. I gradually improved over time with my test grades but the first two test scores were way too low for me to eventually make at least a B in the class. As such, the significantly low test scores evidently caused my GPA to drop. Transportation was also a big issue for me because my parents used to accommodate my transportation requirements. With their relocation, I had no way of attending deaf events for my ASL class. ASL students were required to attend 10 hours of deaf events but I was only able to attain 4

Communication - Essay Example A further claim that ââ¬Å"empathy is a form of interpersonal communicationâ⬠(Jemczura, 2004) is justified and can be a starting point for further discussion of empathy. In accordance with Rogers, if empathy happens, then a system of reference of another man is clearly understood by his interlocutor. The way an individual feels emotions or express them, his attitude to a certain situation can be defined via empathy. Empathy can be efficient in the process of interpersonal communication via verbal means. Moreover, external conditions and physical signals expressing empathy of one interlocutor can prepossess another one to him. Thus empathy is an effective means of interpersonal communication though it requires additional knowledge about a correct behavior in the process of expressing it. Currently, empathy is an important aspect not only for interpersonal communication, but also in conflict management on political, cultural and social levels. For example, American counselors and psychotherapists treat their clients implementing Western Euro-American values. Nevertheless, it is relevant to refer to cultural peculiarities of different nations in order to work out effective system of consulting and treatment (Jemczura, 2004). There are not many studies and researches in this field. Cross-cultural psychological peculiarities should be properly studied in order to reach consensus with a client of any nation. The fact that professional consulting and psychotherapy are of high relevance in the modern world, it is possible to claim that in majority of cases people visit consultants and psychotherapists to feel support and empathy. Thus every nation, cultural minority or cultural sub-group has its own system of reference. For example, Western and Eastern women have different attitudes to their partners or husbands. In order to put up family conflicts of Eastern women it wouldnââ¬â¢t be relevant to implement Western Euro-American values. Thus

Marie De France Era Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Marie De France Era - Essay Example As for technical grounds, the contradiction can be found in the writing when it comes to fulfillment of the marriage vows and that obligation that come along with it. This is presented in case of a young girl, who is married to an elderly person and the couple is a total mismatch, and she is as in figure of speech being caged, and seeking salvation, she pleads for a messiah who comes in form of messiah of love and this leads to the spark of physical desire and love. Being totally non-platonic, this falls right into contradiction with the views those are being carried about marriage in the first half, where she lambasts the court practices and the common performance of adultery in the court four walls. She does not approve of any illegitimate and outside marriage physical relation, and this can be clearly inferred from by mention of adultery that was largely in routine and was not looked up to. However in the later part when the girl who the girlââ¬â¢s prayers get answered and a ha wk is being sent over which later on becomes her lover. The theme is full of expression of love and feeling, and even the beginning is marked by one similar event, where suffering and testing of a soul is joined and folded in the concept of love. It is presented in form of Guigemar who is totally indifferent to the concept of love in the beginning and later on gets embalmed into the vicious element of love which is hard to come out of once entered into. This part of the narrative work is independent of the nature of love or the kind. (from physical or platonic). However the second part of their tale is marked by the physical desire and love for one another when they through the force of love and magic come together again. Le Fresneââ¬â¢s tale is another similar account which has been expressed to explain the love. Lais of Marie de France is actually a collection of poems that was written around the medieval times, although no exact details are available yet all that are available are sufficient enough to deduce the theme and tone of he r thinking, her narration and her mind. Considering suffering as an attached part of love, she advocates the concept of unlawful practices of marriage through the lovers who are admired by the girls who themselves are in difficult times and they welcome the lovers despite being in a matrimonial relationship in other place which is in tatters in this regard thereby allowing them a reason to look out of the window even after being hooked in a matrimonial relationship. She does not stand indifferent to the element of love and values it, yet has different interpretation in different times, which leads to the argument that her first part of paper advocates a different approach of love and relationship, while the second part sees slight deviance from the earlier established concept. The element of trouble, sorrow, loneliness, separation, mismatch, all has been made a part of love, and for this purpose, she has defended the concept of illegitimate relationship. Hence a clear inconsistency exists and it is

The theme on ââ¬Å"Drunken Mimiâ⬠is about the romance and binder perfectly employs imagery to capture the love as it would happen though in the most unordinary way. The strange things continue to happen, ââ¬Å"an old male imp walking on stilts get in love with a strange mermaid whose nerve cells prolong throughout his hair. In this strange way, the male body appears to shrink at first, deforming and disappearing while the strange female body becomes a sight of sensuality, creation and continual expansionâ⬠(7). Bender brings to life the old story we would hear from our great forefathers. She is simply a legend who makes the readers feel the intensity of such unordinary sentiments, even while she strives to make us feel the triviality of the most strange and astonishing incidences. Bizarre things take place in most of these stories. Quite unimaginable things and events. Yet it is possible to see the strand of human familiarity sticking out of these stories like hair would under an old

Fashioning Responsibly Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
Fashioning Responsibly - Essay Example The essay "Fashioning Responsibly" discovers the Fashioning Responsibly. The operations of sweatshops usually pose grave risks to the people working in them, as well as, fail to compensate them adequately. Under most circumstances, sweatshops abuse all labor laws in existence. The fashion industry has to shoulder all the responsibilities that result from their production activities. The fashion industry is the most thorough department of the economy in employing poor economic conditions, as well as, harassment of the workers who power the production systems of these companies. Most of these fashion houses have manufacturing plants whereby it employs a number of workers to produce a given product within the right time. The short deadlines between launching of a product and the growth and expansion of market spheres makes some fashion houses not to adhere to the policies and laws set to govern the delivery of labor in the society. These fashion industries operate sweatshops in order to meet their market demands, as well as, provide formidable competition for the activities and practices undertaken within their production lines. In addition, these stringent working conditions also result from the tight deadlines that they have to meet both in the industry as well as in the market. The conditions in sweatshops operated by fashion houses usually relate to a number of characteristics, key among them being overworking its workers for long periods of the day and sometimes in the night. In addition, these sweat shops also pay these workers below the required minimum wage, as well as, way below the set market standards in the fashion industry. This is in complete disregard and total defamation of the laws and regulations mandating payment of overtimes to employees who work for long hours, or those legal laws pertaining minimum wages. The operators of sweatshops in most cases simply abuse their employees. They see their employees as a means to achieve their goals and obje ctives. They do not consider their social well-being and other financial status and needs the employees in this fashion sweatshops end up working on fabric for long hours, without the right working conditions that may also jeopardize their health conditions, and still get the lowest payments at the end of the day.3 This abuse of labor in sweatshops especially in the fashion industry occurs mainly because of the poor economic standards in which these industries are located. For instance, most fashion industries in the United States and other developed countries have their headquarters at leafy and affluent locations in major cities and towns in the United States. These headquarters of a given line of fashion, or design and brand of fashion, work hard to promote their brand, as well as, coming up with the best designs to meet market demands. However, they do not host their manufacturing plants in these leafy locations and town premises. Due to the intensive requirement of labor in the production of these fabrics, as most of the fashion industry is not well techno developed, they locate their industries in countries
